Built in the 17th century, at the behest of Father Simão Soveral - who is buried there- this chapel is located in Outeiro. The initial construction did not last until today and ended up having to be rebuilt by the people.
Its construction is in a quadrangular plan with a coverage of four waters and the façade in straight gable. The chapel has a churchyard surrounded by a wall and, at the north end, a small cross.
Monsignor Pinheiro Marques refers to the history associated with the name:
this mysterious name of Copacabana became the place where it is venerated, which is a village in the Peruvian empire, where it is venerated in an Augustinian convent, with great devotion for the many prodigies. Meeting there a cleric named Simão de Soveral, a native of the village of Fornos, and becoming seriously ill, he promised the Lady that if she gave him life and took him to his homeland, he would build a house in which his image would be placed (Marques, n.d.).
In order to fulfill his promise, Father Simão Soveral Tenreiro ordered the construction of the Chapel of Our Lady of Copacabana.
