Sanctuary of Our Lady of Health

Dating from the early twentieth century, the sanctuary of Our Lady of Health is located outside the village, on the Calvary’s hill, being formed by three chapels dedicated to the cult of Our Lady of Health, Our Lady of Good Voyage and Our Lord of the Afflicted. In this sanctuary, on the first Sunday of September, the feast of Our Lady of Health is celebrated, one of the most important pilgrimages taking place in the Mountain Villages.

In the large space there is a picturesque bandstand, a fountain dating from 1896, built “at the expense of the Count of Refuge”, and a set of monumental trees, some of which are classified as Municipal Interest. From the top of the hill, at 748 meters of altitude, you can reach a vast panorama over the middle valley of the Mondego and the surrounding mountains of Caramulo, Arada and Montemuro.
