In this section of Alto Mondego, the river flows in a wide valley where the outcropping rocks are dominated by metamorphic rocks, represented mainly by shale. As a result of the local fracture system and the lower resistance of these materials to erosion, over a distance of several kilometers, between the Covão de Santa Maria and Videmonte, the river flows together, between more or less abrupt slopes, describing a very sinuous route. The landscape is dominated by brushwoods, rye fields and, on the banks of the river and its tributaries, meadows for pasture flocks of sheep and goats. This chapel is 8.9 km away from the mountain village of Folgosinho.
