The Vóficina by Aldeias de Montanha project is a creative and community-based tourism experience that brings together visitors, grandparents and local communities from the Serra da Estrela and Gardunha regions in a workshop centred on sharing, tradition and creativity.
Through sewing and patchwork workshops led by the community’s grandmothers and grandfathers, participants have the opportunity to learn traditional techniques, create unique pieces and gain an intimate understanding of the stories, knowledge and identity of the Mountain Villages.
More than just a workshop, Vóficina promotes active ageing, values intangible heritage and creates genuine human connections between visitors and those who live in the area.
The experience forms part of a collaborative network for sustainable production, using locally sourced materials (Km0) and involving local associations, craftspeople, accommodation providers and communities in the region.
Among the activities on offer, a highlight is the customisation of patchwork bread bags, produced by the grandmothers of the Mountain Village community of Alvoco das Várzeas
